Preventive Maintenance Improvement — Electrical Power Systems

Improving electrical preventive maintenance through risk-based planning, inspection standards, condition assessment, and corrective-action tracking.

Engineering case study · qualitative outcomes

Project overview

Problem / Context

Despite existing PM schedules, equipment failures still occurred. Some planned tasks were delayed or incomplete; checklists lacked important inspection points, maintenance records were fragmented, and inspection procedures were not consistently defined.

Solution

Prioritized equipment by criticality and failure impact; revised PM schedules and checklists; expanded thermal, electrical and battery inspections; standardized procedures; organized maintenance records and corrective-action tracking.

My Role

Project Lead — problem assessment, maintenance strategy, inspection standards, technical troubleshooting, team supervision, maintenance reporting, management presentation and corrective-action management.

Maintenance planning

Risk-based prioritization of electrical equipment and revised preventive maintenance frequencies and work tracking.

Condition and inspection standards

Thermal, electrical and battery inspection methods were added or strengthened, alongside checklists, acceptance criteria and standard operating procedures.

Records and corrective action

Maintenance histories were organized for review and technical analysis; abnormalities and outstanding corrective actions were tracked more clearly.

Outcome

Reported improvements included PM schedule adherence, earlier detection of abnormalities, more accessible maintenance records, consistent inspection standards, fewer recurring equipment failures and clearer corrective-action follow-up. No numerical improvement is claimed.

Current Status

Completed improvement activities described by the project lead; dates, scope and quantitative metrics have not yet been independently documented for this public case study.

Evidence & Verification

Supporting maintenance records, inspection checklists, SOPs, equipment identifiers and budget information are excluded from this public portfolio due to company confidentiality requirements. This case study describes engineering methods, responsibilities and qualitative outcomes only; independently verified before-and-after metrics are not available.

Confidentiality notice: Original maintenance documents, equipment records and budgets are not published. The engineering case study is a high-level account of the work performed.
